We require that you read our Adoption Handbook before delivery of a dog. (It can be downloaded from the ADOPTION PROCESS on our website.) Have you read our handbook?
Are you willing to purchase a crate 48L x 30W x 33H (or larger) for your dog's transition time? We do not allow plastic airline crates. However, be prepared to transition your hound from being crated all day, after he proves trustworthy. Your hound may do better in an exercise pen (42” tall, and 4’ x 4’ wide) instead of a crate while he transitions.
Understand that our hound needs time and patience to adjust.
Keep our hound on leash unless in a secure fenced area. Never tether the hound. No retractable leash. No electric or invisible fences.
Never discipline a hound by hitting him. No electronic correctional collars.
Keep our hound up to date on vaccinations, monthly parasite prevention and provide veterinary care when needed.
At no time, under any circumstances, shall Adopter give, sell or transfer ownership to another person or organization, such as: animal shelter, dog pound, research clinic, or individual. If Adopter becomes incapable or unwilling to care for greyhound as described in this contract, Adopter shall immediately return dog ONLY to Prison Greyhounds (PG).
ABANDONMENT: in the event that Adopter leaves hound in the care of another person/kennel/facility and fails to return for hound within 10 days after the scheduled pick up date, and fails to communicate with the caregiver regarding the delay, PG may, in its sole discretion, reclaim and take possession of the hound. PG will provide Adopter with written notice (by certified mail, return receipt requested) advising the Adopter of the status of the hound and requesting that Adopter contact both caregiver and PG. If the Adopter fails to contact PG within 10 days of receipt of notice, PG may take possession of dog from caregiver and the Adopter surrenders all rights to the dog.
Dog must wear identification tag at all times (even if microchipped)
Adopter agrees to promptly notify PG if hound becomes lost or stolen.
(HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT) : I agree that the hound is being adopted for me my immediate family at this address. I understand that this hound will not be sold, adopted, given to another party or otherwise released from my care unless extreme circumstances require the same. I agree that if at any point, I cannot keep the hound for any reason; I must return the dog to Prison Greyhounds (PG) without requesting return of the adoption fee. I agree with PG's assessment that the animal is in good health. I understand that health problems may exist that have not been identified by PG's or my inspection, and that PG does not make any expressed or implied guarantees relative to the health or temperament of the animal. I will not hold Prison Greyhounds responsible for any medical charges, if this dog becomes ill after adoption. I am financially able to provide for this pet and to provide a good home; obtain medical attention when needed (including proper immunization), give nutritional food and water daily. I have proper facilities inside and outside my home for this pet. In consideration for being allowed to adopt a pet from Prison Greyhounds, I hereby assume all risk of injury and/or loss of property that may result to me. I hereby hold harmless; and I release and forever discharge Prison Greyhounds, its board, volunteers, foster homes, and any veterinarian treating the greyhound at the request of PG, from any and all claims and actions, including, but not limited to losses, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses arising from bodily injury or property damage resulting from the adoption, whether personal injury to me, my family members, third parties, or other animals. Animal behavior is unpredictable and animals may injure people, other animals or property.
