SPECIAL  NEEDS: ALMOST BLIND  GREYHOUND
Tux (racing name Blackie) – is a retired field trial racing greyhound. A greyhound lurcher, a mix. He was born 5/31/2022 so he is 3-years-old. Tux was diagnosed at the Animal Eye Institute of Dayton with severe retinal degeneration in both eyes with the left eye being more advanced than the right. This is an inherited disease. Tux has limited vision at this time. We need to find a home for Tux before he fully loses his sight. This will be helpful for Tux to build his mental GPS map in his brain now, so that he can memorize his new house and fenced yard now. Fenced yard is a requirement. He is an exceptionally sweet and lovable boy. His weight is 70 pounds. His adoption fee thru Prison Greyhounds – if we find his adopter before another group- is $300. His adoption includes the book “My Dog Is Blind – but Lives Life To The Full!” This is THE best book. It’s the only one you need! Although adopting a blind hound is not appropriate for every adopter, there is a special person or family somewhere for Tux. Appointments only, if you are interested in meeting him. In the case of Tux, an application is not a commitment, but it is required for us to arrange a private meeting with Tux. Note: There is no medication, nor eye drops, no surgery for his condition. The only remedy he needs is a big-hearted, patient adopter willing to give Tux the environment he needs. He could be happy as the only hound. We have not yet cat tested him.

MARSHALL –  5-year-old male field trial greyhound racer. Very outgoing. Good with kids – has lots of energy! Born May 2020 to our previously adopted Nellie (Whoa Nellie). This boy prefers dogs his size and no kitties.  No small dog either. Named from a favorite kids show “Paw Patrol”. Marshall has gorgeous black and white ticking, a color that he inherited from his combination of greyhound and a smidge of blue tick coonhound! He is 52 pounds, small for a male. He is asking for is a soft bed, head scratches and some squeaky toys. The retirement kennel had too many restrictions for this retired field trial racer who needs his own grassy yard to run and sunbathe in! And he needs a family! Marshall is an incredibly sweet and friendly boy!  He is in a foster home now and learning good house manners from the 2 resident greyhounds. And he is learning good car manners also – like how to stay in the back of the car! He is getting more comfortable every day. Adoption fee is $300.

Hero “Jolie”: brindle female greyhound mix, retired blood donor. Born 6/18/2015; 10-years-old. Loves to run!

62 pounds of pure spunk! Eagerly gobbles up her dog treats! Loves to play in the snow.  Jolie gets along well with all dogs but prefers her calmer kennel mates the most. Great on leash. She would love having her own fenced yard to explore in the springtime. (Jolie is a retired blood donor greyhound mix. She is part coon hound. She is a happy girl, currently living with our partners at The Veterinarians’ Blood Blank in southern Indiana. Hero Hounds helped to save, or improve, the lives of many family pets. Jolie retired some time ago, and now she is ready to find the luxury in retirement that only a home can provide.)

Hero “Dodger”: brindle, male greyhound mix, retired blood donor. Born 7/31/2014, so he is 11. He weighs 57 pounds. Dodger is another super calm boy. He likes lounging around. He would prefer a home that is calm. If you ask him he would say “I just prefer becoming a couch potato”. He does great with keeping his doggie bed clean and really enjoys being loved on. (Dodger is a retired blood donor greyhound mix. He is part coon hound. He is a happy boy, currently living with our partners at The Veterinarians’ Blood Blank in southern Indiana. Hero Hounds helped to save, or improve, the lives of many family pets. Dodger retired some time ago, and now he is ready to find the luxury in retirement that only a home can provide. We have found all of the Hero Hounds to be cat safe.)
