So he is waiting for a special adopter to discover him, quirks and all, to say “I WANT Smokie!” He gets along with large calm dogs, especially NGA greyhounds. Smokie can also thrive as the only dog. He would love all the attention. He is fully house trained. But is has been a very long time since he has been able to sleep in a house. No cats of course; That’s why he is in the kennel now and not the attached house. He needs a fenced yard, he loves to run.
Smokie does not care for children of ANY age. They stress him. We suggest that if children are going to visit the house occasionally, Smokie would want his own secure sanctuary to isolate in until they leave. Smokie is good on leash and loves exploring. He is rather affectionate after he knows he can trust you. (Smokie is a retired field trial racing greyhound. A greyhound lurcher. Born 7/3/2021, so he is 4-years-old. He weighs 70 pounds, recently updated on dental and all his vaccines, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $300.)
His field trial person was a teenager. He would be a great family dog. Topper came into the retirement kennel weighing 68 pounds. Topper is a friendly, happy, tail wagging boy. Pretty energetic still. Found running loose in the woods. He was found limping, and then was surrendered on 7/8/25 to American Lurcher Project so he could get the vet help he needed. It turned out to be pretty minor. The vet took x-rays and found that he had an infection in two toes on a front foot.
The limping stopped as soon as he got the antibiotic he needed. He loves to run now. Topper has a heart murmur (grade 2 out of 6) so he even saw a cardiologist, who said his heart isn’t enlarged, and no medications are necessary. He will enjoy a good full life of zoomies and running off leash in his own fenced yard! Fully vetted. Vicki says “Topper is just one of the happiest guys you will ever meet. To meet him is to love him.” If he gets real excited he is a smiler!
Ready for people and places to see! Since he was in a house for his first year, not much surprises him. Born 12/24/2022 so he turns 3 on Christmas Eve! 63#. He does listen and minds, but when he gets excited in youthful zest he forgets himself!
And in The Veterinarians’ Blood Bank, maybe he is! He is still very spunky, for an 11-year-old. He loves to run and nose around! He absolutely loves going outside to play and run. This guy would thrive in a big family!! He does great with other dogs, he even has several male friends. Titan is not very dominant; he goes with the flow. Could probably learn stairs, but he has never been around them. Birthdate: 7-11-2014, Weight: 59lbs (Titan is a retired blood donor greyhound mix. He is part coon hound. He helped to save or improve the lives of many family pets by his healthy donations.
Titan retired some time ago, and now he is ready to find the luxury in retirement that only a home can provide. The adoption fee of Hero Hounds is $200. They are fully vetted, microchipped)Hero “Cletus” (Male, ½ greyhound & ½ coon dog) Born 12/2/2017, so he is 8-years-old. Very docile.
He still loves to play, & will make an excellent family dog. Cletus gets along with all dogs, if you happen to be a home with multiple dogs. Cat friendly. He absolutely loves to run and be outside. Cletus is a submissive, wants-to-please personality. He goes with the flow! And definitely has a lot of life left in him.
The adoption fee of Hero Hounds is $200.
Danny: Here is another guy on the wait list inside the kennel. Danny is 18 months old, born March 9, 2024. Only 44 pounds. NO KITTIES! Very loving and sweet, but in need of training!
His social skills are highly developed, friendly and respectful of other dogs. (He was evaluated by Canine Behaviorist Kyle Adams.) When walking on leash, Danny is not phased with loud noises or large vehicles. Lower prey drive, even though he is a no-cats boy. Danny has learned stairs. His worst failure is that he gets crate anxiety. He will not crate well, and not for very long. Maybe he is a good candidate for doggie day care? Plan on giving him free reign in the house when you are gone – after he has settled in. He would be a good candidate for a doggie door leading to the fenced yard! Very sweet and attentive. But he should *probably* be in home with no small kids, he might resource guard his food and toys from them. We are still learning things about Danny – ask us! We are working on ways to bring Danny to a foster or adopters home. He is currently in the kennel, but we do not have a hold on Danny yet. We’d love to be the group that finds Danny a home!
